<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="611" height="130" src="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-contact-your-admin-to-enable-embed-code-creation.png" alt="" class="wp-image-1398" srcset="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-contact-your-admin-to-enable-embed-code-creation.png 611w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-contact-your-admin-to-enable-embed-code-creation-300x64.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 611px) 100vw, 611px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Cause of the error</h3>

<p>The reason behind this issue is, Microsoft changed the default state of &#8220;Publish to web&#8221; setting in tenant admin settings. Previously it used to be &#8220;Allow existing and new codes&#8221; and now it&#8217;s &#8220;Only allow existing codes&#8221;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-1.png"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="756" src="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-1-1024x756.png" alt="" class="wp-image-1399" srcset="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-1-1024x756.png 1024w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-1-300x222.png 300w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-1-768x567.png 768w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-1-705x521.png 705w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-1.png 1324w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The fix</h3>

<p>The fix is simple, just change the settings to &#8220;Allow existing and new codes&#8221; and users should be able to publish to web.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-2.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="810" src="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-2-1024x810.png" alt="" class="wp-image-1401" srcset="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-2-1024x810.png 1024w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-2-300x237.png 300w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-2-768x607.png 768w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-2-705x557.png 705w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-2.png 1314w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The security issue &amp; fix</h3>

<p>But wait still the security issue exists. Any user can publish to the web and the report data is exposed to any user on the Internet who has access to the report URL. So the best course of action is to enable the additional security settings, which is &#8220;Apply to&#8221; &#8220;Specific security groups&#8221;. Once enabled, only users from a specific security group will be able to create embed codes using &#8220;Publish to web&#8221;.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-3.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="863" src="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-3-1024x863.png" alt="" class="wp-image-1402" srcset="https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-3-1024x863.png 1024w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-3-300x253.png 300w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-3-768x647.png 768w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-3-705x594.png 705w, https://blog.binarybits.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/power-bi-admin-settings-publish-to-web-3.png 1343w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>
